“I certainly wouldn’t forget the starters at The Oak, which were a fine example of Mr Chavda’s creative nous in the kitchen. Spiced smoked haddock fishcake, Bombay potatoes, poached egg and coriander hollandaise (£5.95) caught the eye of Lady G while I opted for one of the specials Seared scallops in smoked paprika, with spiced cauliflower puree and crispy pork belly (£7.95). Three large scallops glistened like large buttons on a Gucci jacket over a bed of pork belly, which was moist to the touch thanks to the slow roast in its own jus. The meat and fish went lovingly together, and was further complimented by a large glass of Chilian Rosario Sauvigon Blanc.”
